Jet Away Passes the 100 Mares Covered Mark

Arctic Tack Stud’s Jet Away has now covered 100 mares during his first season at the stud, with the operation’s owner and manager Eoin Banville hoping the son of Cape Cross will go on to service 150 mares before the conclusion of the Northern Hemisphere breeding season.

A winner of the Easter Cup (Gr 3, 2000m) and beaten less than two lengths by Fawkner (Reset) in the 2013 Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m), having transferred to David Hayes in Australia after racing for Sir Henry Cecil in Britain.

Jet Away’s book of mares has featured both Flat and National Hunt broodmares, including the Tertullian mare In Excelsis, a half-sister to the Grade One-winning hurdler Jazz Messenger and dam of the smart dual-purpose performer Curley Bill.

Another scanned in foal to the close relative of Dansili was Khazaria, a daughter of Sinndar out of the Group Three winner Khalisa and a half-sister to the Group One winner Khalkevi.

Banville has been delighted with the quality of mares in Jet Away’s first book and also said the stallion’s fertility levels have been first class.

“I’m delighted Jet Away has surpassed the 100 mares covered figure at this stage of the season as the weather was extremely poor at the start of the spring which had a serious knock on effect on mares coming into season,” Banville said.

“We will be confident of surpassing the 150 mark by the end of the season. What is also very pleasing is that he has covered a mixed book of both Flat and National Hunt mares and his fertility levels are exceptional. He is proving very popular with breeders who have difficult mares to cover.”
