Halfway Home Scanned In Foal

The Presenting mare Halfway Home has been scanned in foal to Arctic Tack Stud’s first season sire Jet Away, who has now covered more than 100 mares in his first breeding season at stud.

An unraced daughter of the champion National Hunt sire Presenting, Halfway Home is out of a half-sister to The Tsarevich, a winner of the Mildmay Of Flete Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, and also placed in a Supreme Novice Hurdle and Arkle Chase, as well as finishing third in the 1987 Grand National.

Halfway Home has produced two winners, the most successful of whom has been the Gordon Elliot-trained Balbriggan, a son of King’s Theatre and a winner of six races under rules.

The grey’s most recent success came in November of last year, making all the running and putting in a superb round of jumping to land Navan’s valuable Troytown Chase.

Balbriggan had a smart chaser in Owega Star in second, who completed this year’s Grand National after finishing fifth in one of Ireland’s most competitive chases, the Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown.

Another of Halfway Home’s half-sister’s, Tsarella, also produced a smart chaser in the shape of the former Paul Nicholls-trained Gungadu.

The Beneficial gelding won seven of 25 starts, including the Grade Two Reynoldstown Novices’ Chase at Ascot, one of the National Hunt season’s leading pattern races for novices.

He built on that promise a year later, taking out the valuable Racing Post Chase at Kempton, and also finished fifth in the Grade One Punchestown Gold Cup.
