Globetrotter Jet Away To Join Arctic Tack Roster

JET AWAY, a globetrotting son of Cape Cross, has been retired from racing and will stand as a dual-purpose stallion at Arctic Tack Stud in County Wexford this season.

The eight-year-old, a former inmate of Sir Henry Cecil’s Warren Place, ended his career in Australia, where he landed the Group 3 Easter Cup before finishing a close fourth in the 2013 Caulfield Cup for David Hayes.

Bred by Juddmonte and a former colour-bearer for Khalid Abdullah,Jet Away hails from one of the operation’s most esteemed families, as his dam is a sister to legendary broodmare Hasili. The daughter of Kahyasi is the dam of seven black-type winners, five of whom won at the highest level including Group 1 producer Banks Hill and fellow Breeders’ Cup winner Intercontinental.

Three of Hasili’s sons, Dansili, Champs Elysees and Cacique – all by Danehill – stand at Juddmonte’s Banstead Manor Stud. Other stallions found on the page include Leroidesanimaux, the sire of Kentucky Derby and Dubai World Cup winner Animal Kingdom, and former Banstead Manor sire Three Valleys.

Jet Away, who also won the Listed Festival Stakes at Goodwood, arrived at the stud on Monday.

“We’re standing him in partnership with his owner Douglas Taylor,” said Arctic Tack Stud owner Eoin Banville yesterday. “He has settled in beautifully. He’s a beautiful specimen, a good-limbed horse and retired sound in wind. We’re excited about him.”

Commenting on his former charge, Hayes said: “Jet Away showed the most determination of any racehorse I have ever trained – if he hadn’t picked up an injury he would have, in my opinion, gone on to win multiple Group 1 races in Australia”

A fee for Jet Away has yet to be announced.
